Includes Trelease’s compelling look at “The 32 million-word difference between rich and poverty kids”, which explains why it’s so important to talk to your child, using positive words, as much as possible from birth on.
Houghton Mifflin Education Place : This is the website that goes along with the reading and math textbooks currently used at Shabazz. The “Parents’ Place” pages have activities you can do with your child, based on where they are in the text book.
Partnership for Family Involvement in Education : The website provides steps parents can make to improve their child’s education.
PBS Parents : The “grownups” section, which has great parent guides, health information, and lots of fun activities, will help you teach your child social skills and thinking skills. Many of these are available in languages other than English.
