Welcome to Shabazz Public School Academy

El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz Academy is Lansing’s premier public charter school academy. Admission through the academy is free and open to all students in the greater Lansing, Michigan community. Named in honor of Malcolm X, world renown human rights advocate and Lansing resident, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz Public School Academy focuses on providing students an education that advocates and demonstrates excellence, while at the same time thoroughly familiarizing them with their cultural and historical past.

At El-Shabazz, we believe that all students can achieve at high levels if they are properly taught and supported (Click here to see our Eight Pillars of Success). Furthermore, we believe that all students are entitled to a quality basic education. Hence, our school’s curriculum stresses high achievement in the fundamentals of mathematics, reading, speaking, writing, and science. These disciplines, in our opinion, can be mastered by all students, but not at the expense of not being knowledgeable about their heritage, culture, or history. Consequently, we embrace an Afro-Centric approach to all of our student-centered initiatives.
